My name is Victoria Ferrera and I am a high school student at Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, NY. I have always had a love of music and have used music as a means of reaching out to others. I initiated the idea and helped establish MusiCare for Kids along with a few of my friends. This is a not-for-profit organization which raises funds and awareness for disabled children and their families. Through our musical performances and fundraising events, we were able to raise over $13,000 to help children with disabilities.
This program is a personal expansion of my mission to help others through music. I do one-hour solo performances consisting of a variety of musical styles including Broadway tunes, classical music and pop tunes. I am paid for these events and forward the money to Action Against Hunger. In addition, I fundraise through Celebrate Life, a CD featuring three of my original songs. Funds collected from the sales of this CD are also donated to Action Against Hunger.

I wrote an essay on World Hunger as part of a Theology assignment in 10th grade. It really helped me to become more aware of the worldwide problem of feeding the hungry. It was at this point that I became interested in taking an active part in helping those living in poverty. Click here to read my essay.
