World Hunger

According to the World Food Programme, one in nearly seven people suffer from a lack of food.  Many people are dying every single day due to a lack of food. Society has a responsibility to help those in need.

Although great measures have been taken to reduce the number of people who are starving, the problem still exists and is the number one health risk in the world.  Natural disasters and wars are two prominent causes of world hunger, but many others contribute to the problem.  Overpopulation leads to unhealthy living conditions and a deteriorated environment with insufficient natural resources.  Often, communities have scarce supplies of forest, land, and clean air and water.  This scarcity of resources leads to terrible living conditions.  Since many people do not have the proper education to help combat these problems, the situations are worsening.  As a result, these people have no work, no home, and no family.

There are many agencies working to help reduce world hunger.  When there is a natural or man-made crisis, teams dedicated to eliminating hunger act to assist those communities.  Tons of food are distributed by air, land and sea.  For those who are poverty-stricken, other measures must be taken.  These people must be given assistance so they can learn to properly care for their land.  They must become educated so they can learn about health and nutrition and work toward a better life.

There is enough food to feed everyone in the world.  Communities must come together and work to resolve this serious problem.  Leaders must persist and insist that everyone take an active part in this cause.

There are many ways to get people involved: food drives, fundraisers, simple donations to reputable organizations. Action Against Hunger is one such organization that is taking tremendous steps to assist these desperate people by providing them with life-saving programs that will lead to self-sufficiency and a future of hope.  It is up to us to get involved and spread an awareness of this worldwide problem. With the help of many, the world will be a much healthier, happier place.
